Crossing over
Crossing over is a movie which depicts the desperation of people from different backgrounds with great sensitivity. The desperation to get American Citizenship governs every small bit of their actions. This lies in the deep-rooted belief that being an American will change everything and open floodgates to the opportunities. While to some extent this is true, doing “whatever it takes” approach in this particular context is not something I would agree. There are times in life when the meaning of right and wrong no longer holds true. Everything becomes grey and it becomes very difficult to take a decision. These are the times which test strength in the character. When faced with difficulties at a stretch period, how desperate can one become for a slightest taste of victory to compromise everything?
Some may say that it is easy to judge people and their actions without realizing their conditions and what makes them the way they are. While this may be true, there has to be some sane limit to which one can go. As the movie depicts, a girl from New Zealand goes to the extent of having an affair with an immigration officer who in turn promises to give her a green card. The way some scenes are depicted in this movie leave you shocked. Is this not a short-cut to success and an easy way out instead of striving hard for success? Sometimes when you cross the line, there is no coming back…
